Well Wishes

Don Hughes has completed his proton therapy for prostate cancer and is cancer free. He goes back in 2 months for a PSA. Says he is weak but continues to work on his '39.

Kathy (Mrs Gary) Price is facing the recurrence of breast cancer.

Let's keep these and all our brothers and sisters in our thoughts and prayers.

Member Machines and Gossip

(Thanks to Dick for the following)

Don has been to Pigeonburg with Doug Phillips, and Mark Warner for the cancelled car show that had a big turnout.

He has also been working on interior lights and body gaskets for his '39 Chevrolet.

Les Lawson just celebrated his 75th birthday and is still staying busy in his body shop. Along with his usual business he is redoing dashes for Darius Hartsock and Keener Mallicote. He is also replacing the power steering pump on his PT cruiser, not a small task.

Gary Price is still dealing with a hot start issue on his Plymouth. He is also in the process of buying a piece of property in Carters Valley that has a 50' by 30' shop with a 12' ceiling and as a bonus the property also has a really nice house on it. (First though, gotta sell one house to get the other – Gary)

Bruce Roberts drove his Chrysler to Pigeonburg for the cancelled car show that had a big turnout and said it performed perfectly. Perry Stapleton, and Bruce's shop foreman Buckshot Elliot went with him. He is now updating the interior in his '35 truck with new seat covers, headliner and carpet. This work will be top quality because it is being done under the watchful eye of Buckshot.

The rumor that Maynard Ketron won first prize in a Mitch McConnell look-alike contest has not been confirmed.

Sid Vicars and Charlie Ball took Sid's '41 for a test drive. They reported that his car runs rides and drives great. They were also able to verify that the fuel gauge is correct when it says empty.

Mike Smith is now the proud owner of an 02 Toyota pickup that Carol sold new, the truck just turned over 30,000 miles, Everyone who has seen it says it looks brand new. Mike sure can find some jewels, he is planning on upgrading the wheels. Mike says Eddie Lawson is keeping him busy with A/C installation work.

I (Dick) am helping Randy Bledsoe convert a Volkswagen Karman Ghia from automatic to standard transmission. I also got to redo a VW engine I had never heard run that had a knock. When the engine was torn down it was obvious someone had built it by the book and all parts were new and correct, but the flywheel had been loose. After lots of head scratching, I found that one of the four dowel pin holes in the new Chinese crankshaft lacked .012" being deep enough, keeping the flywheel from seating on the crankshaft. I just happened to have a good VW crankshaft and flywheel, this seems to have solved the problem.

I will, once again, make my shop available for an informal non-club gathering October 8. Starting time is 5ish. As always those who feel comfortable coming should bring your food, beverage and a chair. Open space fresh air a bathroom and hand sanitizer will be available.
